The WWTP is a regional facility which provides wastewater treatment service to the Town of Bloomsburg, Bloomsburg University, and the majority of Scott Township. The WWTP was originally constructed in 1950, with major facility upgrades completed in 1967, 1971, 1983, 2012 and 2021. The WWTP discharges to Susquehanna River and is currently permitted for an average annual flow of 4.29 MGD, a monthly maximum hydraulic capacity of 4.72 MGD, a peak instantaneous flow of 11.0 MGD, and an organic design capacity of 7,000 lbs BOD5/day. The facility was recently upgraded to include: • A new influent screening facility that includes a new cast-in-place concrete structure with pre-engineered metal canopy roof, mechanical screen and associated screenings washer/compactor, rehabilitation of the existing raw sewage pumping station, including replacement of three (3) existing raw sewage pumps with new dry pit submersible pumps • Constructing a new influent grit removal system that includes a multi-tray vortex grit removal unit and a grit building housing new grit pumps and grit washer/dewatering equipment. • Renovating existing primary clarifiers to replace clarifier mechanism equipment and raising clarifier exterior walls to improve performance by increasing side water depth and to provide flood protection.
