The existing Upper Allen Township WWTF is located in Grantham, PA south of Messiah University, between Creekside Dr. and the Yellow Breeches Creek. Wastewater that is treated at this facility is discharged to the Yellow Breeches. Flow enters the plant at the influent screening station, where larger debris is removed, prior to the three submersible pumps. These pumps convey the liquid to a valve vault where flow is split to two 12” diameter force mains. Flow is conveyed through the force mains to each of the two Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) tanks for biological treatment. Following treatment, clarified effluent is decanted from the SBRs, chlorinated, and discharged to the Yellow Breeches. Solids wasted from the SBRs are sent through a series of Aerobic Digesters, stabilized through that process, and then sent through a new Screw Press for dewatering. The most recent upgrade to the plant included replacement of a belt filter press with the new screw press, which also involved replacing sludge feed pumps, conveyors, and the polymer feed system. Other ancillary equipment, such as compressed air systems, digester blowers, lighting and HVAC were also replaced during the project.
